916 engine ive been offered a 916 engine to fit into my bike instead of my 748. im wondering what other modifications i could make to the engine before i fit to the bike, what have you guys done or what would you recommend. im looking for a bit more power and grunt if possible costs appreciated too as it will be done on a budget thanks in advance |
If you've never ridden a 916 you'll find a LOT more grunt than the 748. The torque comes in pretty smoothly, and keeps building so you dont realise how fast you're going without trying. The downside compared to a 748 is that it's much snatchier in traffic cos you'e doing less revs for the same speed with the 916. |
It's pretty straight forward plug & play fiiting the 916 lump in the 748. Done it to mine & it's now got the grunt i expected the 748 should have had. All you need is the 916 chip & oil cooler. Do not forget to consider resale value & insurance implications, some companies are not happy with the upgrade c/n wanted to increase my policy from £250 to £750. [Edited on 1-8-2005 by 748mart] |
What's the year of your 748? The 916 has 10mm engine bolts and later 996s and 748s (post 98 I think) have 12mm Engine bolts. Check your bolt sizes. All pretty straightforward after that - fuelling remap etc. If necessary You could bore out the mounting holes on the 916 engine to 12mm. Or you could just use the 916 barrels pistons and heads to make an 853 |
it was off a p plate like my 748 but the joker had put it on ebay with a no reserve auction and then said he would only accpet over 800 quid for it, it only reached 417 but is still available as hes refused to sell it at that price. will look at getting the 853 conversion done instead but still not got any idea of price and the actual work involved |
deej ... send a note to keefer ... he did this recently. |
yeah will do cheers mate |
