Donington - Blast from the past

Just dug out some old results sheets (1999 CB500) from Donington.

Some interesting names...

DNF - Dennis Hobbs (WSB this w/e) - 1:25.840
8th - Richard Cooper (BMW Cup & 1000STK) - 1:25:138
31st - Jon Kirkham (BSB) - 1:32.427

...and the fastest lap was...

Meeeeeee - 1:24.564

(but I only finished 10th coz me bike broke on last lap - bugger!)

Lap records still stand from 1997 though...

Newcomers Cup - 1:23.745 (Russ Baker)
National Cup* - 1:22.508 (Paul Wilson)

*The one Toseland won.

I think the 1998 sheets are in the garage, with James Ellison etc. on them.

Why can't I go that fast now - with 10bhp more :puzzled::sniff:

...must be getting old :(

...and slow

Nice one fella - you're setting yourself up for a fall though!!! ;)

1.24.5 - 6 years ago, now a new smooth surface, more power - you've gotta be getting in the 1.23s or you'll be going backwards!!! ;)

yeh and Dom, the BHP's on these CB5's were a lot closer to what you're 620 is putting out than they are to a CB5 of today;). I'll bet none of them were on 49.5 like me, that's for sure - you were there, but I've heard all the stories:P

Tim, I think I've set myself up an awful lot already. I have high expectations, but so far I haven't had 52bhp (apart from Snett). I think we're getting close to 60bhp now, and it showed on Tuesday. I'm getting there at long last.

:)

WJB - My 98 bike made 51bhp and I think the 99 bike made a touch less.

I think the highest horsepower figure was 52 (on the official dyno at meetings)

However, there were other things being done like close ratio boxes, diff CDI's and the like.

Stories of engines being swapped after riders went too fast and bikes being sold with different motors were the norm.

I even had the Chief Scrutineer of the series say to me "If you've not go a close ratio box, you must be the odd one out"... Erm, right oh :puzzled:

Still, I know my bike was legal - probably why I didn't win more races!!
