ducati alternative bike, help needed.
 

Since I can't find a suitable alternative duke to use as a run around at the moment, I'm looking at something different now.
Does anyone on the board own one, or had one that can advise meon the following bike.
A mate of mine has a 2000 (w) CBR600 in black, just over 2k miles on it, in immaculate condition.
Never been dropped or pranged etc, totally original.
This is the carb flavour, not injection. realalistically what sort of money would it be worth, any areas to look at for problems etc.
My last IL4 was a CB900F2, so it's been awhile since i been on a IL4.
I've heard they can be a bit nippy, any help.
Yes, I know it's not a duke, but it will get me out about on two wheels for the rest of the year which is what I need to do at present.

How about getting a Supermoto type bike? I had a DRZ for a short while and it was a lot of fun.

depends upon how many miles and how you're gonna be using it I spose!

There's always the Brutale, S4R, KTM Duke type bike that offer the "same but different" if you see what I mean.

I know what you mean tim, I been looking at all sorts of things, and this cbr came up, and has the advantage of being a little used and well maintained bike.
I want to do some longer distant rides and track days before the weather goes down hill to much, so need a bike that fits both reqiurements, also cheap to run, and with my wrist problems needs to be sort of comfy.

I had a CBR600fx model before my Duke, I think thats the same model as the one your looking at.

I did have my fair share of problems with it, blown regulator which fried the dash, rusty centre stand after first time getting wet and gearing a little on the high side (as all bikes I feel), and quiet like a hairdryer.

The last problem (quiet like a hairdryer) caused me to sell it as a kid ran out in front of me not knowing I was coming!!! Certainly wont do that on the Duke:devil:

No real pboems although I've heard about the cam chain tensioner as all IL4's.

I had an Fx track bike. Excellent bike for the track and loads of peeps race them, plus one of the best allrounder bikes out there. If well maintained, should should benefit from Honda reliability and it's much cheaper to maintain. The only thing is it's a bit uninvolving, it's a functional bike to do a job, not something to love and cherish, but that's what you have the duc for - buy the right tool for the job is what I would say, so if you want something that will be comfy, keep going all day every day and be cheaper to service and run, then you can't get much better than a Honda IL4.

I've had a CBR600F before, it was a '96 and fantastic. Can't go wrong with a Honda for reliability you can just run them into the ground and they'll keep on ticking.

Didn't have any problems with it being quiet either as it was an ex-TT Proddy Bike!!! Went like stink!!

I take it you won't be popping around for a look at the 996 then Robin?
