When brakes go well.

Hi all,

Ok so last night I decided to clean up and check the brakes on the 996. Unbolted the hoses removed the calipers and master cyclinder and waisted a can of brake cleaner. The pads had tonnes of meat on them but were green stuff (YUK).

I knew I could replace them till the weekend but wanted something do last night, so got out the wok and the washing powder and boiled them for 10 mins. They came out like new still green but look new.

After cleaning and checking everything and bolting everything back together with new copper washers I was on the the hard job of bleeding. Cracked off the caliper bleed nipples and got some tube and a couple jars (I prefur the old fashion way) topped the system up with Automek SBF pumped it a couple of times and kept topping it up.

Next thing was to hold the lever in with a rubber band and go for a coffee. After about 20mins went back to the bike and closed of the bleed nipples. Topped of the fluid and pumped the lever to my suprise there was presure there straight away. Checked each caliper for bubbles the bleed the master cyclinder and "jobs a goodun".

I now have one finger breaking but will get some decent pads at the weekend but at least thats only a 20min job.

I have never had brakes go this easy, is it a brembo thing or just blind luck who knows. Anyway hope this helps someone at some stage when you can't get any presure.

Don't knock it, it's great when stuff goes this well. I'm sure we all have enough bad 'ens.

That's no way to treat a wok - They are precision cooking instruments that need regular maintenance!:P

Old wok chicken, my good wok is very well looked after.

Don't know what the fuss is - nipple... squeeze... juice...
Easy enough, and very satisfying when you get a nice firm feeling after doing a good job.

:D
