one or two classes next year? given the choice, would you rather have just the one classs next year: upto 675 carb/620 injection; or 2 separate classes(on the same grid): standard 583's and 675/620. nb: this is obviously dependand on getting the 675's/620 on an equal footing but that is another matter for now. |

I'm so confused on this "class" issue. I've given up thinking about what is equal and what is "fair". Even within the individual "classes" there is such a wide gulf in the level of preparation and budget, and ultimately we are always going to get the "front runners" and the "tail-enders"...and there is ultimately no "cure" for this. I currently run an essentially "standard" 600ss with a BB kit. I know I'm never going to be right up there at the sharp end...no matter how much money I throw at the bike. And let;s face it...precious few (ehem...probably none) of us are going to be the next Valentino Rossi...so why are we getting our knickers in a twist about it? I must say that I think a lot of us expected the bikes to be a little more equal than turned out to be the case...and I was utterly stunned at the rate at which the 620s went past me on the start/finish straight at Cadwell....but we all knew the rules. (Unconnected note; as it happens, I think it was extraordinarily "sporting" of Jeff Spencer to re-configer his bike back to standard spec). I think each and every rider needs to take a close look at his/her motivation for getting out there on the grid and "doing it". Would I have any more fun if I were fighting a field of fifteen and finishing, say, fourth....or competing as we are in the existing field of thirty-whatever and finishing, say thirteenth? My enjoyment is really just getting out there on the grid and having a (semi) friendly scrap with my closest matched competitors...the fast boys have already cleared off, and I've left the slower riders behind...and if we change the rules to make FIVE classes nothing would change! If there were to be a "split" in the field the arguments would just start to rear up...and NOBODY would be able to say with real authority how that split would actually take place....and whether the classes would be any "fairer". The danger is that we end up with two very under-subscribed race classes and the series begins a slow decent into obscurity. And...thinking selfishly...what would I do?...pay MORE money to re-convert my bike to 583cc, or EVEN MORE to do all the necessary mods to compete fairly with the 620s? I don't want to go there! Sorry...I'm ranting....so the up-shot is.... DO NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love DD just as it is! :D:D:D:D:D:D Andy #99 . |
I think we should instigate a fine system for the over use of "quotes" ;) Ok, I'm off to get these wheels done .... |
Just don't change anything in DD for next year... please... [Edité le 18-8-2005 par Tonio600] |

That's three "fines" then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
andy, im very much with you on this but i can see the value in having a 583 only class to encourage people into a series very cheaply and where they can maybe pick up some recognition for their acheivements on the way. for me, if i come 20th in a race, i come 20th in a race regardless of how many classes, guest riders, non points scorers etc there are. |
IMHO The DD needs to split into two classes....for 4 very good reasons.... 1 : it gives people who are interested 2 ways into the DD race series..either spend budget costs and field a 583 or spend a bit more and ride a 620ie..either way we attract/ appeal to a wider audience of potential dd racers... 2 : It gives the 675 riders who cannot afford or dont want to pay out even more for engine mods to drop back to 583 and still race. 3 : it gives the 675 riders who want to compete on a more BHP level playing field the chance to tune the bike and race the 620ie's. 4 : the 583 riders dont have to tune there 583 to compete with either the 675 BB or the 620ie's..they have a race class that is very very evenly matched and would deffo be down to rider skill and experience rather than power advantage. these are my thoughts..... I would like at seperate 583 class and then I may be encouraged to give it another go next year. As it stands I'd have to tune the nuts off my bike or buy a 620 to give me the incentive to get much better and stick it out as without a separate class I doubt there would be any 583's left in it. I'd much rather stick to a non tuned 583 for entry level racing. I don't want to go and buy a 400 or minitwin to race. I want to race my ickle Ducati. [Edited on 18-8-2005 by phoenix n max] |
I voted for two classes, be nice to see enough entrants for two seperate classes each with there own race. Phil makes some very good points but did miss one out when it comes to attracting new people into the class. At all circuits there are a limit on entrants into a race, so if the circuit can host a grid of say 36 riders and we have 38 DSC members wanting to race it will no doubt be the slowest two from quallifying that loose out, if we only have one class there is a good chance these could be riders of 583cc machines and it could be the same people every meeting. If this was to happen then people thinking of entering the class would steer clear of 583cc bikes, so there goes the cheap introduction to racing. Where as if its in seperate classes then it can be done relative to the pole time in each class which may mean a 620/675 rider could miss out. |
