higher bars and fairing mods I am Looking at going much taller with my handlebars. BUT!!! the fairing follows closely the swing of the std bars. Has anyone done a high bar mod and mods to the fairing to allow for them. (Not including just taking the top fairing off!) Thanks In the meantime I am about to try some cyclecat risers. They look really neat in titanium and give massive ammount of scope for up/down and angle adjustemnt... but not sure if I will get as much rise as I want without mods to the fairing. You may see them for sale soon if I cannot achieve the desired results. I'll let you know how i get on with these. |
erm....care to give us a clue what bike you have ??? Frank |
whoops, The bikes a 1000SS DS. What a great weekend! Lots of sun, great ride, wrists still hurt today tho. |
Hi Richard. I've looked into doing this on my 900SSie and as you say there's not a lot of room without fairing mods. But Helibars do some 'bars that move them back, up and reduce the angle. I've haven't done it but 916 owners say there is a big improvement in comfort. SEE HERE |
I have been thinking about higher/different bars also. Look at: http://www.cyclecat.com/BR1-1.htm In the USA but looks like good quality. I have also just ordered some bar end weights to possibly reduce vibration. Will give it a try. |

High Bars Cyclecat riser bars now fitted. Look V nice in titanium colour. Not a difficult job to do (a few hours).... but a bit fiddly. They do foul the top fairing on all settings, but this can be easily raised by (Gently) bending the stays that hold the mirrors. This gives about half of the available adjustment with major mods. I have taken before/after photos that show the rise, what I didnt appreciate was also how much wider they are. I can email them if you want to see, but i havent worked out how to attached photos. I will take test ride in next few days, and let you know how they feel. Rich |
1000DS SS high bars What a change! The cyclecat bars have transformed the bike Did around 100 miles yesterday, and my wrists / hands felt fresh and fine. (seem to of cured the vibration numbing of my hands too!) They only make little changes to position, like 1" higher, 1" wider, a little flatter etc... but the way it now feels is a massive improvement. I even felt alot more in control of the bike, even at the end of the ride cos i wasnt having to try to hold myself off the bars. Also fitted a 14t front sprocket to make lower speed control better. Make accelerating in 1st rather exciting as it trys to pick up the front :-) Pity Ducati dont make them like this to start off with. |
Glad it worked out for you. I thought the DS was meant to be much smoother than the single spark bikes ??? I fitted a larger rear sprocket and yes - gotta admit it is good fun ;) Frank |
Hi Richard - I have a 2003 1000DS and been having a lot of problems with numb fingers. I installed some heavy bar ends that have helped some - but not enough. I have been thinking about the cycle cat risers as the next step. You sound pretty convinced. Any way you could send me some photos of what the bars look like on the bike? I do not know how to do that either.... thanx -- scott |
