Wanted vents in fairing 996r - 998

I am after a pair of the mesh grill/vents that are supposed to be in place on both sides of the fairing on my 996r. I assume they are the same as a 998? Popped in Ducati Leeds to order some and they said they were not available and to try the DSC!

Martin - they 're easy to make - most DIY stores sell the mesh and then all you need are some tinsnips to cut it and a vice to crimp the edges ;)

Might be a bit tricky to get hold of some originals, but they wouldn't be too tricky to make, basically, they're just a couple of pieces of mesh with two holes for the DZUs to go through.

If you can't find any originals, I would have thought all you would need would be about 8" by 6" of mesh (for a pair), some tin snippers and a drill (So says the DIY expert who spent 10 minutes trying to drill through a kitchen work-surface before realising the drill was in "reverse" :puzzled: )

Thanks I have considered making a pair, are they glued to the fairing in anyway? or just held on by the Dzeus fasteners? Might have a look around a few hardware stores for suitable mesh.

Yes, that's right...on the 996, they are just held in place by the DZUs

Thanks JPM, I can see me spending ages trying to make a pair I am happy with!

... it'll bring you even closer together :saint:

Affixing the new Ducati Performance carbon tank protector was a major bonding excercise! Normally with those things I just chuck em at the bike and it stays wherever it sticks! This time however it was done with an embarrasing amount of precision using lengths of string etc to get it perfectly central! If I had access to a Laser thingy I would have used that to get it within the nearest micron of being central. The one that was on was a horrible tangerine colour?

Heard you'd been into Duc Leeds Martin, Jane told me a 996R owner had been in yesterday and fixed Charlie's juke box :). i had a sheet of the mesh which i used on the 999 seat unit, it is easy to shape and you can use silicone adhesive to hold it all in place if needed.
