Weather!

Wow!That was some thunderstorm last night.
Heard it coming across the fens for ages. The lightning lit up the night sky and there were several strikes in the area.I heard the fire brigade had 40 calls. The electricity supply kept going on and off too, which made it feel even more freaky.
Anyone else get it?

Oh yes! The lightning last night was absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately, the storm skirted round to the west of us and didn't pass right overhead, probably 10 miles away was the closest it got.

I say unfortunately because I love thunderstorms. When I was very small, no more than a toddler, I used to be frit of 'em, but my Dad used to stand at the bedroom window with me looking out to watch the whole storm. I've done exactly the same thing ever since and with my own kids too.

Most spectacular storm I've EVER seen was about 20 years ago when me and my brother were driving back from Grenoble overnight. Whether we were in one huge storm or just bouncing between several I have no idea, but we were in it for 8 hours with huge lightning strikes, the closest one hitting the road literally 50 yards ahead. Rain was coming down in stair rods. Of course, a car is one of the safest places to be in lightning, but we were slowed to about 40mph on an autoroute simply because the wipers couldn't cope. Since it was the early hours of the morning there was virtually nothing on the roads, so you can probably imagine how surprised we were when, in the middle of all this, about 20 German bikers shot by at about 80 mph :o:o:o

What time was that? I live just south of Cambridge, and heard maybe one distant clap of thunder, nothing else. Probebly just slept thought it!

It struck down here (Camberley area) as well - thunder loud enough to set off car alarms.... Good stuff :lol:

It seems to have travelled a fair distance. It was rockin and rollin here in Newcastle about 6pm to 8pm. Took a long long time to travel over the city. Muchos thunder and lightning. Many thousands still without power this morning and localised flooding all over the place. Deep joy.

I'm the opposite end of the shire to you.
I could hear it coming around 8pm and was right above us around 10.
I just cant remember ever seeing so many bolts of lighting like that.

There was a good storm down here on the south coast at around 8pm too.
Parked up the car to pick someone up and a bolt came down within spitting distance - the afforementioned someone said she saw the static discharge travel through her living room.

Went up to high ground and watched the storm trundle off over the South Downs... facinating stuff.

Came over the Derby area around 6:30pm ish and lasted for a couple of hours.

I had my fairing panels off the bike and leant up against the wall. Saw it raining and could not be bothered to put the panels away. Went out about 9:30 to find one panel blown over and "skidded" across the yard ..... 2 or 3 patches of light scratches  Have to see if they can be polished out F**K ....
