996 SIDE STAND.......

I need some help regarding the side stand on my 996. As I am quite short I had it changed to a manual side stand. However, the side stand is tucked quite far under the bike and I am having an absolute nightmare getting it down before getting off the bike!!! I can push it down about half way and then it flips back again. Because of my height, getting off it and then putting it down is an absolute no-no!!!!

Does anyone know if there is a side stand available with an extra bit sticking out of the side of it to make it easier to push it down with your foot and if so where can I get one? I'd rather avoid the soldering something on to the side of the original one unless absolutely necessary.

Ta for your help...

Hi Katie and welcome,

I Dont think there is one with a bit on already and the only way would be to have bit welded on , it is alloy though so a bit more difficult than steel. I know longer stands are avaliable not much help to u though:o

Unless any other models feature the same stand with a bit on maybe from st range some one who knows will be along soon

Mines a double vodka and coke to:D:D

Cycle cat do stands in differant lengths, but I dont think they do one with an extra lug for easy use.
I guess and engineering shop could mebbe knock one up using your old one as a pattern.

Yup....

After searching the internerd, I have come to pretty much the same conclusion. I'm just going to have to take the existing one off and see if someone can weld something onto it or design a new one.

Ta for your help

You could always have a hole drilled into the existing one at the right angle and location (use felt tip marker), tap it, and put a short bolt and spacer in.

Standard sidestand is pretty poor from my experience, wouldn't want to risk weakening it further myself, but im no Engineer ;)

Katie 05-Sep-2005 20:52

Yup, have also been thinking about that solution but agree with Craig from the point of view of the sidestand being poor!! It looks pretty flimsy!

Well, modification seems to be the only option at any rate so I guess I will have to find someone who can do it for me.

Ta for your help.

30 hours and 40 odd minutes and you still haven't been to the bar Katie ....

Mines a large single malt please ... cut with a drop water and no ice ..... there's a good girl....

As for you sidestand, not a clue, maybe Skidlids could "craft" something or maybe AK will make you a bespoke stand, just don't flutter your eyelashes at him in view of CK ...

oh .. and welcome ...... :)
