Video to DVD numpty question. I have a few old video's,(no,NOT that type of video!;) )that I would like to copy onto DVD. I have umpteen video players and a DVD writer on my 'pooter.I guess I need some sorta lead between the two? Is it just a case of scart to USB/av out to USB,or do I need some box of tricks inbetween? |
You need a analogue to digital converter i think. I got a box from QVC called an ADS Tech (www.adstech.com) which allows me to connect any analogue source to the USB connector on my pc. Cost about £30. I've used it to make CD's of some old audio cassettes but as i don't have a DVD writer i haven't tried it the way you want. Can't see why it wouldn't work though. Ah, of course your video needs to have some kind of "out"connector on it. Mine doesn't cos its a £29 Tesco special :( [Edited on 23-9-2005 by rockhopper] |
Cheers Paul, I have thought of a way I could do it for very few pennies.I have a DVD recorder under my main tv,.....surely all I have to do is connect the video player up to it via a scart and record away!:eureka: Dont think the DVD's will work on any other player tho?:puzzled: Hmm,I'll have to experiment. It'll give me summat to do in the winter!:) |
As you said all you should need to do it connect your VCR to the DVD recorder via scart or composite. (You dont gain better picture quality with a scart from a VCR unless is SVHS) I know my DVD recorder has a finalize option for any recordered disc so that it should play in any player after that. Are the videos something you've recorded ? If they are purchased originals you may come across the macrovision copy protection. You can updated firmware on the net to disable the macrovision protection on some DVD recorders. There is also little black box's available which you can put in between your VCR and DVD which will remove the macrovision signal. Rich. |
That`s the easiest way Keef,is your dvd recorder a Minus or plus(- or+)? The majority of copied DVDs seem to play on more machines if they`re minus discs. It`s unlikely your tapes are Macroed, but like Tricky says there are ways around that;) My birthdays coming up you realise mate ;):eureka::saint::) |
