Gaskets v gasket compound?!?!

Quick question, asking advice from the masses...

I'm currently replacing the clutch on my DR350, and to do so, have removed the RHS casing from the bike (bloody wet clutch!).

Obtaining a gasket for this join is proving a nightmare, so I was wandering what the general feeling is about using a gasket 'compound' as opposed to a paper gasket?

I know in an ideal world, the paper gasket will probably win, but are these compounds you see any good?

I'm assuming they must be OK as I can see some on my 916 where it has been used on some joins, although whether or not is this is instead of or as well as I'm not sure?

So...OK to use instead of a paper gasket?

Any experiences/views greatly appreciated.

Harv,

I use a mixture of paper gaskets cut out of Cornflake packet (dont ask me why but Kellogs do the best material) and make sure that I grease both sides when I put it on the bike. You will need a set of wadding punches to make the holes for the fixing bolts. Quick tip for marking out, put grease on the cover and carefully place on cardboard, then lift off carefully.

Otherwise get yourself some Yamabond, I think M&P do it. It is the grey gasket goo that the factory uses and is excellent.
