Laptop Advice

Thinking of changing my laptop, have always had Sony previously and was thinking of the Sony VGN-FS215B.

Any info. on this or alternatives from you IT folk would be useful.

Main uses - Microsoft Office, Presentations, Video, Photos, CD/DVD, Email & Internet via wireless.

Cheers, Roy

All the usual suspects I guess, HP/Compaq, Toshiba, IBM, I believe Acer are pretty good now, all I would suggest is stay well away from DELL, or hell as we call them!

Sony's a good buy though to be honest

Take a trip to an Apple Store, if those are your main uses a windoze box is not the best option, I use a G4 laptop and like you most of the time its office, (excel or powerpoint), presentations ( either powerpoint or keynote if i am running a lot of video in the presentation and can live without auto slide timings) finalcut pro for video editing and dvd studio pro for dvd authoring ( the G4 comes with imovie and idvd which are both fine for light use), 802.11g wireless, bluetooth are in the box. biggest plus i find is ability to run different types of video in the presentation and ease of swapping to different projectors screen sizes. plus no virus problems or spyware/adware.

I bought an ACER a few months back from Ebuyer on the recommendation of a friends brother who is in the "know".
Fantastic bit of kit for not much money at all.
Centrino, DVDRW, 60Gb HDD, 512Mb RAM etc. etc. for sub £500 inc. vat.
I couldn't find anything to touch it on spec for £'s and it's been faultless.
I've passed on the brand to a couple of people who have bought one since with no problems either.

I've used acers in the past and had no problems with them. However our prefered laptops in the office are either toshiba or apple. Typing this now on my powerbook.

tricky.

Strongly recommend an Apple Powerbook: Fantastic piece of kit (I'm an architect running CAD, rendering & video/photo applications on a G4 Powerbook as my main work station) which now communicates effortlessly with PCs. Depending on how computer literate you are, it is also worth bearing in mind that Mac OSX (and subsequently most 3rd party software) is much more intuitive to use and understand, and OSX is very stable.

More expensive than the majority of PC laptops, and you'll need to buy the MAC version of the software you need to use, but in my opinion well, well worth the investment.

Acer take some beating for the money and reliability even adviced the 'mother in law' to buy one and you woouldn't stitch her up or risk comeback would you !?!?!?

Nelly you are spot on, out of all the Laptops my company sell, Sony Vaio is the Worst out of them all, The best out of them all is indeed the Acer we havnt had any back for repair out of the hundreds we sold recently, whereas we get Vaios back all the time.
