Best way to bleed brakes/clutch ??? Well, I have just fitted my new Cycle Cat bar risers and after a lot of adjusting they look about the same both sides now !! The only problem is that after much cursing and swearing I cannot seem to get a brake or clutch lever. The original reservoirs had to be removed and replaced with Brembo GP types, the fluid is in them but I just cannot seem to get the fluid to come to the bleed nipples. I have bled brakes countless times before and sometimes they are a real pig but I just cannot get this to work. What is the best way to do this. Suggestions please ( Helpful ones !! ) [Edited on 30-9-2005 by iang] |
Perseverance!!! There have been a few threads on this - worth a search. |
Brakes are not so bad to bleed because the pads do stop when they reach the disk and so the fluid has to go somewhere (else). I fitted a tecmoto modified clutch slave to my ST2 some time ago and it was a bitch to bleed as it tends to operate the clutch (a little) I guess rather than find another route. I watched a mechanic bleeding a rear brake once and he used a large syringe full of fluid. He took the reservoir off, tipped it upside down and removed it from the pipe, stuck the syringe nossle in the tube and forced fluid through (bleed nipple cracked open a touch). I was surprised, but it seemed to work and was a darn sight quicker than the way I normally do it. |

Sorry didn't know how to link a post. |
Got them on mate? Lets have some more pics! I've had the same problem before, and also used a syringe, but in a different way: Attach a syringe (via a piece of clear tubing) to the bleed nipple on each caliper, and suck the air out, drawing the fluid through...worked really well for me! How do the bars feel? What position have you got them in? |
How about a laugh everybody !!! The best way to bleed the brakes after fitting bar risers is to take the reservoirs off that you have just fitted and remove the bungs in the bottom, this tends to help the brake fluid to come through !!! Stupid B*****d that I am. Khu, they are a tw*t to fit, I have not got them adjusted yet as I have just come in from doing them and my friday night curry has just arrived, I will let you know tomorrow sometime. |
