Canvassing opinion, secure parking idea I know we should not have to pay for this level of security but.... Possible business opportunity, if you could rent an area of a circuits car parking space on event day fence it off and organise a secure method of validating ownership before a bike gets out. Who here would be prepared to pay a small fee for such a deal? Bikes are small, how many could you get into half an acre at £2 a throw. |
Interesting idea, that we did as a Club back in 2000 at BSB rounds to attract new members and grow the Club. The simple answer is that you have to go to the Circuit and rent a bit of their field for the day, the price will vary. The Club has metal posts and plastic chain link that you can stake out, we also have a small marquee to put up if it is raining for those that are going to stand guard. Give every owner a cloak room ticket, that will allow them to remove their bike at the end of the day. When we did it we tried to make it Ducati only, but the majority of people turn up with their mates on "other makes" so it is better to charge them all and run a general area. Back in 2000 we were charging £1 per bike and from memory were showing a profit! Biggest problem is finding the people to stay there during teh main races. We also ran a raffle for t-shirts which people liked. |
Bet you dont know what i do for a living then!!!! |

good idea - i have until recently been paying for secure parking in london, because i am sick and tired of scumbags nicking bikes - and not enough spaces, too many scooters etc etc. £3/day for peace of mind - i would do this at a race day, especially if it was handily located. |
I would be looking at digital photo's as you arrive married to the Number plate as a minimum level of security. |

It was a few years ago, but the last time I went on the bike to the NEC show there was a similar idea. When you parked your bike you gave your date of birth to the guy at the entrance to the bike park & he logged it against your plate no. He only let you out if you knew your dob. It was a bit slow leaving but nobody lost their bike. |
Would the club be liable if a bike got nicked while in its care though? |
