Hot too hot...
 

So the sun came out and everyone got stuck on the trains... do I care?.

My 748s - (Recently serviced at St Neots Motorcycles - Excellant job other than the £'s but about correct from what I can make out)

Anyway... Its sunny and I'm enjoying the ride when my left leg starts to get hot, then hotter then uncomforatably hot.

So I stop and my leathers are too hot to touch with a bare hand, my leg is bright red but not burnt and the bike.... shows no sign of anything untoward ?

The temparature gauge had been wandering but not dramatically and soon returns to normal when in clear air.

I cannot see what could cause this.
It seemed to be very localised and there really is nothing on that side of the bike that I could see that would generate or direct that sort of heat.

Anyone any ideas or do I just need to wrap some asbestos(substitute) around my leg.

I have been riding my old 916 for the same reason although my legs are getting very hot, on the 998 it is unbearable in traffic my right thigh was branded where the seam of the trousers had burnt me! with no airflow to cool the exhaust pipes the area on the right hand side gets very hot indeed. I wont complain in 3 months we will all be moaning about the cold wet weather avoid traffic and enjoy

yeah the 998s are a bugger in summer traffic, they dont have those big side vents to let hot air out anymore!

Could it be when the fan kicks in?

When mine kicks in it blows some draught backwards as well as forwards and causes the hot air around the engine and exhausts to heat my legs, a lot!

Next time check to see if your fan is turning when you feel the extra heat?

The ST4S gets its heat blast coming up the Left hand calf , and by crikey ! , its hot . Seems to be from the x/horst.

I dunno mate, have you tried riding a 998 in the summer?! :lol:

My '98 748 SPS copes with temperatures into the low 40's provided that I am out and moving at speed. As soon as I stop ( traffic, toll booth tc etc the emp rapidlly moves from a normal 80 degres to 100 at which point the fan kicks in Once at this point, however, if still in traffic it will hit 110 degress and as you have found out, the combination of engine heat and that from the exhausts soon becomes intolerable.

The trick is to keep on the move :lol:

No but have tried roasting my nuts on track on my 996 this year, thats probably why my head gasket has popped its cherry:mad:
