VAT from Italy??

anyone know if UK vat (ie as when it comes from USA) is payable on a internet purchase from Italy?

I think not as EU country but best to be sure...add 17.5% and its nearly UK price.

Hi Brad, Is called IVA in Italy (search for it on the invoice) and changes depending the products..on Motorcycle stuff usually can arrive to 18%... helmet less is I am not wrong.
However, any price in Italy is including IVA.. so if even you buy on line prioce shown is with IVA (VAT) ..
You shouldn't pay double in the EC.
Ciao

You should pay Italian VAT (IVA) only (this means, if Italian VAT is included you won't have to pay it again in the UK). This is for almost all the goods, where the VAT (IVA) is payed in the country from where you're buying.

If it's a new vehicle, then VAT (or IVA) will be payed in the destiny country, i.e. the UK if you're bringing a bike from Italy for instance.

Yep, as above

20%
It's in the EU, so you don't pay twice

BTW,

Carpimoto quote the prices with and without,

e.g.

http://www.carpimoto.it/product/Lang...Prod_13787.htm

and if your VAT registered in the UK (or at least have a VAT code) you can notify them during the purchase and they don't charge the VAT at source.

Be extremely carefull Bradders,

I looked into this a few moths ago and found i was going to be hammered TWICE!

Import tax of between 6-8% then 17.5% VAT on top of that!!!

Made the item i was buying a waste of time and more expensive.

I have since discovered that the import tax depends on whether the parcel is targeted by customs or not.

Tip given to me by a friend who works for the Post Office, there are several hangers where the goods come in to. He recommended the goods be sent by Parcel Force, they are located in the second hanger, by the time customs work there way through the first one the Parcel Force boys get their wagons loaded up and do one as quick as they can.

The other way is to have it sent to you as a gift with this clearly stated on the outside of the package with the correct documentation showing this.

Regards

No!!!
There's no import tax if it's from another EU country. You only have to pay import tax and vat if it's coming from outside the EU.

Ducnow,

I phoned Customs and Excise on their helpline number, explained i wanted to brings parts in from Germany and could they clarify the situation.

I checked and double checked that they were aware it was from the EU and that was the info they gave me.

The call was recorded and they asked for my postcode and NI number as a reference, which seemed a bit strange at the time???

Anyway they also followed it up with written confirmation of what we discussed through the post.

If the info is duff i will be well pi55ed as i missed out on a bargain:mad:
