new viruses come along all the time
your anti virus is trying to tell you
a. it needs updating(download latest anti viruses)
B. subscription has ended(nned to pay to get updated anti virus)

if it is b then there are some prettty damn good free anti viruses out there. try a search for avg

Windows XP has a security centre, the icon for which is located in the Control Panel (Start button -> Control Panel -> 'shield icon'). There is a section in there about virus protection and whether windows monitors it and warns you. I think that is what it is referring to.

Let me know if you can't find that and I'll do screen shots.

sounds to me like your NAV licence has or is about to expire, it only lasts a year then you are expected to renew on line to continue getting the live update service which you need to keep your anti-virus software up to date and be able to spot new viruses. If you do not renew you will stop being able to download the latest anti virus updates and the NAV will become useless.

AVAST is meant to be a good free anti virus program. You have to register (free) to get updates, but a mate in the trade swears by it. Search for it on Google for a download. Then uninstall Norton.

A blonde woman goes into a department store and tells the salesman she wants a pair of pink curtains. He assures her they have a good selection of pink curtains He shows her many textures prints and hues of pink fabrics Once she has finally picked out a pink floral pattern the salesman asked her What sizes do you need? She replies 15 inches. He exclaims 15 INCHES?! What room are they for? She says I only need one, and it's not for a room. It's for my computer monitor. The surprised salesman exclaims, Miss, computers do not have curtains. The blond says HELLOOooooooo.... I've got Windows!

forget Norton, http://www.avast.com/ is free for home use.

I had Norton and it also did this to me.It drove me round the bend for weeks until I just uninstalled it,its a marketing tool to get you to renew your subscription, and not a very good one really, as many like me just get ****ed off with it and get something else.
I went for the AVG recommended by some on here, though I have noticed it occasionally seems to take over the computer for its own purposes, updates etc which can be really inconveniant if I'm in the middle of something.
