Sprocket sizes

Without going outside to count, too cold, and not bothering to search for the info, Im too crap,
whats the standard size of the front and rear sprockets on a 2004 749s

I want to have a selection of ratios, so im looking at going two up on the back, and one down on the front, and all the combnations that that can offer.
Cheers

14 Front / 38 Rear as Std. I've gone up two on the rear and it makes a difference... very nice. Don't go down on the front as this can place to much stress on the chain, also try doing a search on the site as this has been covered many time before.

My 2003 749S was 14 front/39 rear. I went up 2 on the rear, as 14 is the minimum they recommend on the front before the chain starts to suffer. I beleive that was one of the differences between 749 and 749s, 749 has 15 on front (no idea about the rear).

Anyway, going up 2 on rear is like 1/2 a tooth on front, and it does make it a lot more lively. 14/41 now and the only problem is running out of top end a bit on the track. Nice an snappy out on the twisties though :D

Cheers for that, to be sure I will do a count, and check the front, as you say Henry, Im not overly comfortable with going down at the front due to chain lunching capabilities.
Murray, I will do a search, once ive lost my afternoon hangover feling.

Don't worry about going down in the front...you can't. It comes with a 14 and no one makes a 13. Down one in front is equal to up 2 1/2 on the back, so I usually err on the side of acceleration and go three. I went up three on the SS and have no regrets. Gonna do the same on the 749. I wouldn't think up 2 on the 749 would be good enough given the rpm range of that motor. Just me though.

dont forget that you can only go so big on the back sprocket before the chain becomes to short and doesnt fit !!
I know this because I have a 40 tooth Rental sprocket that wont fit on my 749S with the standard chain - the sprockets only £25 but the chain is over £100.
Its for sale if you want it. Im going for the 39 tooth one.

The whole drop a tooth on the front tends to refer to the 9** bikes as these come with 15 tooth front sprocets and the 748 / 749 always came with 14 tooth as standard.

I know it's already been said, but, 749 go up 2 or 3 on the rear ...... new sprocket will be between £20 and £25.
