Will an 888 fairing fit on an SS ? Or rather - can one be made to fit? Top centre section looks essentially the same unless the fairing frame is substantially different to the SS. Lowers will obviously be the problem but, the mounting bolts look to be in roughtly the right places... Anyone done this before at all? Long term project - as I keep looking at the newer style SS fairing panels with the rear slot in them to update the looks of my SS a bit....but really the 888 fairing looks to me to be the dogs dangelies. Might be time for a poor photoshop session :o:o:o Cheers - Frank |
Frank, If you need any measurements and photos, just ask. I'll take 'em as I put the bike back together. Newly painted frame just dropped in the garage. Rgds, Rob |
If youre not in a hurry, I have to service the beast this winter, and I can offer the panels up to the dd-ss and take some pics for you. |
Frank, The simple answer is yes an 851/888 fairing will fit a 900SS. The top section is a bit wider than the SS so you will have to bend the fairing stays out a wee bit.The side panel holes are not quite in the right place but can be redrilled obviously! There is also a big hole where the radiator should be! Back in '91 I 'raced' a 900SS and replacement race bodywork was not available in those days.I fitted a glass fibre 851 fairing and seat unit to my bike.Did'nt look too bad. I have to say tho,it was'nt all my idea.I just copied what fellow racer Adrian Orram had done to his SS.Kawasaki KR1 fairing was also a popular fitment at the time. I have also seen a road going SS with the 851/888 fairing fitted,...looked pretty good.(May have been at the TT or one of the Scarborough meets.) I have some pics somewhere in the old KB arcives,(the loft!),I'll try and dig some out.:) |
You 888 guys are great !!! Thanks for the offers of help but the answers are in Keefy's reply I feel. I thought I might be able to use the centre section but now realise I need all three 888 items and they will need a bit a bit off 'jiggery-pokery' to fit. If re-drilling / repainting is needed I might go with F.Glass items like the German seller (Recambi Weiss ?). Good long term project I think.....have to get my bike working first and get my Spaghetti headers fitted :devil::devil::devil: Roll on Spring !!! Cheers again - Frank |

We know Frank;) best you do like the Jools did and get yourself a T8:lol::lol: |
Yep - a T8 would be great but finances would never run to one and an SS and I've been with my 900 too long now to be parted....LOL...daft but true !!! Frank |
