What’s the deal with these transponders – I’m new to this racing malarkey...

Do I have to buy one?
Rent/lease it?
What type/make is it/where do I get one?

You can get them on the day from New Era.

£10 per meeting plus £50 deposit.

Return the transponder and you get your deposit back.

No need to arrange with them, as they'll have plenty. Just pick one up from the office when you sign in, after you've done scrutineering.

or if you have disposable income -you can shop here for re-chargeable or hard wired ones:)

Now what about fitment - do I buy a type of bracket or will tape and cable ties work?

You can buy a bracket at the first meeting for a fiver.

I have a hard-wired jobby that I had cable tied to a fork leg all last year. Worked a treat.

I have to say that the hard wired one seems like the best way to go (TP lent me his for Cadwell). No charging needed, and it's harder lose (unless you can misplace a Ducati?)
