one cylinder probs continue
 

my continuing saga of the 748 running on 1 cylinder -

not fuel as plugs wet when removed so no need to change fuel filter

getting decent spark when I remove the plug and tried new plug so not plug, ecu or coils

only thing I can think of is that the ht lead doesnt seem to snap on to the plug as well as it does when out of the housing - collar seems to stop it going in any further!

Only other thing I can think of with my limited knowledge is that the air filter could be blocked.

Anyone got any wise advice as this is driving me bloody nuts?

Was the plug very wet and was there a strong smell of petrol? Does it always run on one or does it sometimes manage both?

Ditto Rocky above...does it fire on the second cylinder at all...sometimes...never?

In situations like this, swaping comonents over often helps to identify the culprit or at least give you some pointers.

Try swapping over the HT leads (if they will reach?), coils, plugs...and give it another go.

Was this something that just started happening on it own or is it a result of an action on your behalf (i.e. riding in the wet ot summut??).

Not been following this but do you still have two intact timing belts?

Isn't the bike under warranty?

If I was you I would get the bike back to dealer ASAP.

The more you mess about with it & time goes by, the more reluctant they will be to sort it out.

Thats what i was getting at Roy! I wondered if one belt had gone.

check the belts 1st no question.
if its a intermittent problem then check the HT connections back at the coil end.
sometimes they can not be clipped up properly and when the engine is running the vibration can cause it to miss further..
but please check the belts as continuing to attempt to start it if its thrown one will not be doing it any favours.

Yep - not intermittent, always one cylinder. Plugs wet with fuel but spak when I remove them.

Will try swapping leads this weekend but think it's going back to dealer. Was just trying to check that I hadn't done something stupid first and get landed with a large dealer bill but starting to think it may be the belts - how easy are these to check?

Only other thing I can think of is I have 45mm Termi's on with no change to chip - this wouldn't have affected the mapping would it?

Probably the easiest way is to take the belt covers off and have a look. I very much doubt the exhaust would cause this problem.
