What d'ya mean Mav? Confess to your crime and get a lesser sentence than you would have had you not confessed?
Seems that if they had been "caught" by the police using the available evidence and detection methods then they would have faced the death penalty. But it looks like if you hand yourself in and confess your crime and involvement then you'll receive a lesser sentence and not necessarily life imprisonment.
I'd say they've got it wrong - the crime was the crime no matter whether they confessed or not. Not saying that capital punishment is correct but you've gotta draw the line and not bend the rules.

Now, how much interest did Prescott pay on his non-paid tax?

I would have thought that in Thailand the death sentance would have been the soft option. I doubt their prisons are as kushty as ours. Nor the life sentance being a short stay.

I'm not 100% convinced they did it!

If they did, then they deserve everything they get IMO.

I mean, we live in a country with a good police force and good forensic testing and I'm sure we would not be ready to sentence to individuals for a rape/murder charge after just 12 days after the event.

Of course we wouldn't..... All those legal people unable to drag out cases for month after month, year after year and make absolute fortunes doing it....with us picking up the tab...

They might even lose their jobs:o:o

If they have the DNA evidence as stated in the press. Then let the sentance start before the dogooders interfere. Because the justice system is swift in don't mean that it is wrong.
My brother lives and works in Thailand (20 years). If you commit the crime there then you had better accept their legal system.

Was/Is it Thailand or China where once they pass the death sentence it is carried out approx 15 minutes later by firing squad?

Agree it seems quick, but, I'd like to bet they don't have many rules to stick to when questioning them. Just hope a quick admission of guilt is a true one. If it is, they deserve what's coming to them.

China, and better yet they then charge the wife/family for the cost of the bullet. By the way it's not actually a firing squad-way too expensive-just a bullet in the back of the head.:o
