Carbon Fibre Shortage

Not sure if this topic has been done before.

Just been reading in my cycling magazine that there is a worldwide shortage of carbon fibre because the US military and Boeing are securing all supplies.

There will be a shortage for small producers because they don't have the muscle of the big guns.

What will you guys do now to get your weight loss fix?

If theres a shortage its cos the cycle industry is using all the carbon fibre :) Taiwan bike frame building has gone carbon crazy, every big frame maker over there has carbon now most with second plants in China where labour is even cheaper.

Same goes for titanium, world wide shortage and prices doubling in 12 months. Again all blamed on the far East and motorcycle manufacturers that are now including more Ti' on their bikes as standard.

It is not so much Boeing and the US military - they have always been heavy users of carbon fibre.

The current (new) problem is caused by Airbus Industries. They want to buy everything. They want suppliers to get out of existing contracts. No time limit either - the new giant plane is expected to have a production life of at least 20 or 30 years!!
