I was looking at this last weekend...Trying to figure out how best to insure a van with no NCB as well as my car. Only solution I came acreoss was with DirectLine ...They do a deal whereby, if you insure your car with them with, say, 5 years NCB, you can then insure a second vehicle with them , and they will allow the same NCB level. Only limitation is that you must be the only named driver on both vehicles.

This is not much good if you don't have a car NCB, or aren't in a position to insure both vehicles with them, but its the best deal I came across....They also do cover Vans which some of the other mainstream car companies dont.

As an example, my Toyota Hi-Ace ****-heap came out at £250 with them as against nearly £400 with anyone else.

I had a problem about 4 years ago when I bought my van, I had to start with no NCB even though I had plenty on both my car and bike. Someone told me to ring the National Farmers union insurance and they gave me a pretty good deal. Have a look in Yellow pages for their number they were a lot cheaper than anyone else at the time.

I used a specialist race transporter policy from Anthony D Evans on my van. I could get FC insurance with them for the same price I was offered TPF&T by mainstream insurers.

I was with Direct Line with my car, but they stiffed me on the van. It was too expensive to cancel the policy (bought the van and sold the car mid policy) so I stuck with Direct Line.

Direct Line wanted almost £500 fire & theft.

CIS (well known for cheap van insurance amongst racers) only wanted £250 fully comp.

Why not try Dial Direct, they do Van Insurance, you can get a quote on line.

They were the cheepst for me by far, let me use car NCB and awarded me an extra year to make the quote lower than my next best one.

No idea if they are any good with claims etc, but they refunded part of my policy etc and gave me proof of no claims when i went back to a car :D

I use a-plan for mine, 01793 868888, full commercial policy on a new transporter and no NCB fully comp cost me £500, service has been good so far.
