Powder Coating How the feck do I get the sodding stuff off the frame, it was suggested to use a blow torch and a scrapper which has worked OK but I'm looking for a better solution. Murray Mint |
Bead or shot blasting is the way to go. It'll also give you a sound, clean base to repaint. |
only bead blasting mate are you Re -powder coating? |
The suggestion to use a blow torch and scrapper can from the guy thats going to do the repaint using a 2 pack paint, the idea behind his remarks are that the powder coat is quite soft and that the shoot blast just bounces of the paint, I have also heard this from another powder coating company Murray mint |
Shot blast would be to heavy possible pitting of the frame! Then it would need loads of PRIMER FILLER:( BEAD blasting would be ok but it depends on the original powder coat:( Chemical dip works well mate, and if you get it nickle plated b4 paint the finish is awsome:D |
If you're going to "wet" paint the frame, than blasting will probably leave too rough a surface to get a smooth finish. Shot, especially steel shot, won't bounce off the old powder. It'll clean it off no problems. It's the wet coat you're going to use that's dictating a non abrasive stripping. Have a look around locally for a chemical stripping company. There's too many nooks for the blow torch and scraper method. It'll take forever and you'll not get it perfect. |
nelly "Two" great minds eh:lol: |
