I hope you will think no less of me for being on a lesser license. Im a scooterist by trade, i have a 1959 Series 1 Lambretta as my usual ride and have been poodling around on a Gilera runner180 for the last 6 months. Thought id just stop by and say hi and all. Off to buy some FST (?) shortly here cos i think my carbs are iced. - It sat out in the cold all night and doesnt want to start today. :) Cy |

Your not from up by Cleathorpes I hope as we already have Scooter916 (Glyn) up there running a scooter shop and has a team of three 600SS's racing in Desmo Due Welcome to the site and does your bike have the carb heating oil circuit fitted |
Hi guys Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Thats really cool. Im based in Norwich. Please forgive my poor 4 stroke knowledge. Im good for 2 stroke stuff (you have to be with a lambretta), but 4t im a newb. I'm kinda worried about the non starting issues. it started ok from cold last night when i picked it up (it was cold, i checked) - but she was always been housed in a nice warm garage. Currently i cant ride it (boo) until i get the 33bhp kit on it (next week). It doesnt have any kind of warming kit or anything on it, but im interested in looking into something to help it start of a cold morning. I did some googling this afternoon and a few forums i stumbled across mentioned fuel additives being a good help to get things started in the cold. i went to a mc shop to get some and the guy there denied this. Any tips would be mega appreciated :) Thanks Cy |
5'er there is a split of opinion wether to run carb warmers or use the silkolene pro FST fuel additive - i run with the pro FST at variying ratios depending on the temparatures 50-1 for when riding in freezing temps and 100-1 for just cold temps i dont bother in the summer of course- works for me!-i dont know if the additive helps the starting tho, but it does certainly help with smoother running at low revs- i always use the super unleaded too---carb warmers do work too if you can find them and get them fitted -ive got some but after 12 months still havent got round to fitting them--- when you start from cold you arent making the same mistake as i did when i first got my 600? what i was doing was giving it full choke and just a blip on the throttle motor spun over but didnt fire- an hour later i decided to try different tactics put it on half choke and just pushed the button without touching the throttle she fired up a treat - works every time now!!(tempting fate);) |
I saw a 600M/600SS carb heater kit on (UK) ebay this morning - may be worth a look........ |

You want to have a word with AK&CK - they spent all of 2005 claiming their race bike only had 30 odd bhp :lol::lol: |
