Open Clutch Cover Hello What are the benefits of an open clutch cover on a standard clutch? Apart from the bling factor surely as long as you clean out regulary all should be fine for road and a few track days. or am I missing something:puzzled: regards TopiToo |
The dust will escape mate and cluch will run cooler  And they look and sound better :cool: |
I'd quite like an open clutch cover, but IMHO they only look any good with a billet pressure plate, stainless steel springs and anodised spring caps to show off underneath it, so you're getting into quite a bit of wedge. Whenever I've had that sort of money, there's always been something that I've needed a bit more, like new tyres or something. My ST has it's standard clutch cover, but I'm thinking about doing the same trick on it as my 888, which came with a closed carbon fibre clutch cover that has a couple of washers between each mounting point and the clutch housing, thus creating a gap to let the dust out |
Hello Thanks for the info, not to worried what my clutch looks like as long as it does the job, like the idea of cooling it down though. as I have a spare clutch cover I may start drilling a few holes and see what happens.:D regards TopiToo |
great idea jools, open clutch covers have always been a worry for me on trackdays in case of a trip in the gravel, should still keep the gravel out:burn: |
When things run cooler they also perform better, hot plates expand ever so slightly. Run an open cover and you will notice a slight smoother increase in performance. Wet clutches lose the bike Bhp as there is drag in the oil, I suspect hot expanded plates may create the same drag. Moto GP bikes have no cover at all. |
If doing track days swop it over for the original. More likely to have an off. A relativly minor spill can cost heaps if the bike goes dode on the clutct. No one worried about bling on your bike at trackdays. |
Or get one of these http://secure.speedymoto.com/Merchan...ory_Co de=CPP The pressure plate should protect the posts And then get the open cover http://secure.speedymoto.com/Merchan...gory_Co de=CC Nelly at Cornerspeed stocks them:D |
