seat recovering Hiya all, just popped into an upholsterers and he wants 130 notes to recover a single seat in alcantera is this about right? Also he says it doesnt last that long and also if it gets wet it will be knackered would be interested in your thoughts cheers stu |
does sound steep U2U |
Did the 748 seat pad myself in red suede. Left the standard cover in place, carefully wrapped the red suede over the seat pad and stapled the suede on the back of the seat pad. Total cost £12 for the suede. Give it a go yourself, especially if it will save over £100 :o |

Piccy please? :D I'm thinking of doing this myself - black 748, red suede seats  |
I had mine recovered some time ago now by Auto Interiors, they used to do all the seats for Reve racing, cost me £50.00 which I didn't think was too bad at the time. Since then plenty of people have said about doing their own covering, buying the Alcantarra for a few quid. I thought the idea of the stuff was that it stood up to water better than suede, I know mine's survived a soaking! |
Bought a piece of alcantara from a place called Peacock Fibres in Bradford - cost about £12 I think, do a search on google and you'll find it. They primarily supply to the craft trade so don't charge exorbitant prices for the stuff, apparently its used for teddy bears paws etc.!!!! Then got Seatworks (in Wyke, near Bradford) to recover it - he charged me £15 I think. I've had work done by him before and can thoroughly recommend him, he can do anything you like from adding extra high density foam, coloured piping, one off designs etc. but of course the price will reflect this. Can't comment on longevity etc. Hope this helps |
Paid £55.00 for mine, over three years ago, its wearing well. |
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...keTra ck=true this material is red, but he probably does other colours. better check for colour fastness i would imagine :) |
Thats daylight robbery stu - you can get a brand new pukka tecnosel race seat (already in alcantara style finsh) for that sort of money !! I had my 916 seat covered in sude for £40, and bought some of that water resistant suede spray for shoes..worked OK.. Anyway - forget seats on stay focused on making that ECU bracket for my RS subframe... Nat [Edited on 9-2-2006 by Nattyboy] |
Alcantara is NOT waterproof, It comes in two forms, backed & unbacked, the backed version has a waterproof backing to it so as to make it waterproof. Chris.:burn: |
