996 Year by Year spec ?
 

Anyone have a link or care to give me a year by year spec for the 996 ?

Things like which ones have ohlins/showa forks or shock ? What BHP each year has and am I right the last 996 SPS? had the 998 engine ?

Someone with far more knowledge will come along with full details but as far as I know the 996 sps and then the 996S had 123 bhp. The 996R has 135 bhp. Model year 2000 sps had Ohlins forks as had the 996r which is fitted with same engine as the later 998s.

If you go onto www.ducati.com there should be all the year by year model specs.

Being a saddo anorak type person i've also got a book at home all about the 916/996/998 history published by haynes which lists all the differences and also the whole development story.

The basic 996 came out in 99 and produced 112 bhp, showa suspension.

There was also an SPS 123bhp version in 99 and 2000, with Ohlins shock, but only the 2000 model had Ohlins forks.

2001 model year there was still the standard 996, along with the 996S (similar 123 bhp engine but not quite the same to previous years SPS, i think it had SPS cams but maybe not the Ti rods, Ohlins shock, showa forks).

996R was also a 2001 model, with full Ohlins and the first 998cc testasretta (135bhp) motor that was used in the 998S year 2002 models. All 2002 models had different versions of the 'stretta motor.

One other fact is the sports tourer ST4S actually claimed 117bhp, more than the standard 996, go figure:puzzled:

The problem is compunded by the fact that Ducati sometimes just put on whatever they have in the factory at the time. Run out of Showa forks? Stick Ohlins on to get another finished bike!

It's not uncommon for some models to come with higher grade components from the factory.

They'll be something on Ducati's website going through all the bikes

Nope,that would be the 996R,the first of the Testastrettas.

996S has same internals as 996SPS according to Ducati Parts Catalogues - different flywheel and pickups for the different ECUs. As Antoneye says tho' if they ran out of parts they'd fit what was available, so no Ti Rods - they'd probably fit steel etc.
