Urgent Help Required Help!!!! I have just switched the Cans over to get an MOT...Switching cans was easy, but I can't get to the ECU fixing bolts to switch it over. Started to undo fixing bolts, then decided it would be OK to ride 5 miles with wrong ECU in . Reconnected "open pipe" ecu, now all I get is rapid clicking from ecu when I try to start....engine is turning over, but won't catch. I assume it is bad connection, but both multi-pin connectors seem properly connected. Any ideas how to get the connections right and also, am I right that a short ride with the open pipe ECU won't do any harm? Many thanks, Ian |
Have you undone the bolt enough to let the earth to ecu come off? |
Riding a few miles with the wrong ECU should be fine - as long as you don't cane her!!! |

Yeah, just figured this...the earth came off, I put it back on, but the frickin thing has snapped, so I now need to try and undo the bolt again, but it is turning at the other end...do I have to take the battery holder out to get at the end of the bolts? Once I've got the bolt undone, I'll have to solder the earth wire to the eyelet again...bugga! |
Ian - call me - there is a technique but it's easier to talk through - 01428 724454. Henners |
Henry, Many thanks for the offer...bit late to ring you now, just spent the last hour removing battery holder to get ECU off...what a nightmare...still its going now...hope my soldering lasts until it gets the MOT |
Has anyone with a 998 or a 996R got any photos of the R/H side of the bike with the fairing off? In order to get the ECU off, I ended up removing my previously broken battery holder and fitting the new one. Only problem is, I forgot which way up the regulator went. A "before" photo would be really useful to make sure I managed to stick the right bits into the right holes. Thanks, Ian |
I remember, leave the alloy backing bit in place and just change the electronic plastic bit on the front.........4 screws! |
