Electrics

Dear all. I'm still on my honeymoon period with the 996 and i tend to use it and wash/clean/maintain it regularly as i did all my previous bikes.

I wonder though - have any of you experienced problems in simple washing/cleaning/hosing with electrics? Do i need to protect or can i 'upgrade' the wiring/fitments?

I'm fine with mechanical stuff but have no interest in electrics as it frustates me through my lack of knowledge. Wondering what (if any) problems or challenges you all have found so far?

Cheers.

Ps - weather looks A1 in Ayrshire this weekend :):):)

Judging from your Avatar it looks like you have one of the later 996s with the three phase charging system, the electrics on these are a bit more robust than on earlier models

Yep it's a 2002 model. Still - went out tonight to find a wiring connector had mysteriously separated which explained why my front right winker didn't work. I'll have to check them all now to be safe. All part of the learning process i expect :)

I pulled all the plugs apart !
cleaned them all with electrical cleaner!
Packed them all with waterproof grease!
Then road 450miles back in the rain from germany!
NO problems at all!

I haven't purchased a complete Ducati yet, all have been accident damaged repairables, basket cases or a collection of bits. As such I usually end up building them from the ground up. As such I have suffered very few problems with the only break down (i'm not counting the snapped DID chain) being down to the two alternator wires on my 916 deciding to cook themselves after 24k miles. Repaired at the road side with the help of a friend that ran some tools and crimps out to me (Thanks Caz).
