eBay - PayPal Surcharges Just a little rant, but this really ****es me off - the old "add 4% if you pay with PayPal" in an eBay advert. eBay did a big campaign a while back, when they bought out PayPal, to stop this and make it against the Ts&Cs of using eBay. So tonight I've bought something - and there's the "add 4% to the total if you're paying with PayPal or we won't send it". So I've reported the robbing *******s. /rant details here, with links to the reporting form, if you're interested: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...urcharges.html |
Dont worry - Ebay can't be ranted at enough these days. A great service gone bad. This topic is REALLLY annoying me at the moment: PRIVATE FEEDBACK !!! http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...ck-public.html |
Lookat it from the sellers POV. He gets charged for the listing, he gets charged for the sale and then he gets charged by PayPal. Take, take, take. It's not like PayPal's protection is worth **** - it isn't, it's worthless. Personally I won't accept or use PayPal when I'm selling. It's cheque only and if you want the convenience of getting it quickly by PayPal then you pay for it because, there is no benefit to it for me as a seller. |

frank i just avoid folk with private feedback, what are they trying to hide?? /ian |
I don't trust ebay or more specifically PayPal, who returned the money to one of my buyers as he claimed not to have received the goods. He later listed the item for sale !!! They would not accept that I had a certificate of posting and that the buyer had accepted my first class post option as he'd bid on the item which clearly showed that postal option. I only ever send out things by recorded or special delivery these days. You are not obliged to buy items which state that a paypal charge will be made, as far as ebay are concerned its an illegal listing. |
I always use paypal for sales simply becasue it takes me my whole lunch hour to drive to the bank to put cheques in so the cost of taking paypal is more than worth it. |
Must admit mate - I ask people to cover my costs..just sold a set of termis and the paypal charges alone would have hit me for £17..! :flame: Nat |
Too right Nat. PayPal ****es me off - they crow on about the protection that you get from it but, both times I've needed it they let me down...they only care about the fees they receive so, I do my utmost not to give them money. |
If a business uses credit cards it pays a %age to the CC company. Paypal makes it easy for those of us who don't have CC merchant accounts to take CC payments. Why should we expect the service to be free? I always account for it when posting an auction, and accept it. I think any seller should do the same. Now Travel Agents that charge 2% for CC payments online, but don't provide another means of paying, that's another rant (but it's perfectly legal) |
Simple, when selling something on e-bay allow for all the fee's. If you feel the price you get for the item is not high enough after paying all the fee's then sell the item else were. I do disagree with people charging extra for pay pal fee's. I tend to ignore this request and to date the seller has still sent the goods. |
