Fuel Tank 996r

Could anyone tell me which tanks would fit a 996r? I know a 996r tank will fit before anyone tells me! What I want to know is do earlier 996/748 etc tanks fit straight on? Seem to remember something bout the front mounting being different. Any other details I might need to know re pump etc?

as far as im aware all the 916 model range tanks fit , i have used a couple on mine for trackdays etc no problem.

Thanks, I am after one for trackdays etc and wanted to make sure before I bought one.

The tanks should all interchange, but the fuel pump connections are different on the later models (post 1999 - I think?).

The later tanks use 2 push-fit fuel union connectors (within the fuel pump that mounts in the bottom of the tank), whereas the earlier ones use a banjo type jubilee clip jobee.

The good news is that the pumps are iterchangeable too.

So dependant upon what you are looking to achieve, your 996R fuel pump will fit into any tank, but as these are a pain to swap, I'd suggest you get a tank with fuel pump included that has the later type puch fit connectors.

Most tanks on ebay seem to be the later type anyway, but always worth checking. I understand that the earlier pumps can be modified to take the later connectors, but I think that this is an expensive option.

Martin

i've got a spare tank if you ever need to borrow one (as long as i don't need it at the same time of course).

Mind you i lent it out in October and haven't seen it since:lol:

Thanks Sean, I have my eye on one at the moment which I will paint black to match the fairings I have not actually ordered yet.

reminds me of the song

I see a red tank and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black

Who sang that then?

rolling stones

Was also the theme tune for Tour of Duty

MARTIN H 23-Feb-2006 13:50

Yes correct! For some reason they always seem to use Paint it Black in every Vietnam type film.

i have a black one you could use...

ok, so it's slightly less capacity than a standard one, but from one side of the bike it looks good :D

check the part numbers for the 748 and 996. When I bought mine the bloke said that the fuel pumps were different. Easy to check though. Or else make sure it is a lte model 996 tank.
