One for Nelly........ I think Ive seen several mentions of 853 conversions from a 748. Some questions on the subject :- How big a job ? Reliability issues ? Additional service costs ? Why do it ? Any models that cant be converted ? Bennefits ? Cost ? Can it go back to being a 748 ? Cheers Simon  [Edited on 1-3-2006 by Tantrum992] |
Several peeps are offering this now, Nelly being one. Check out the sigma website for some really good info: http://www.sigmaperformance.com/748r-853r.html |
Big? - heads & barrels off Reliability - Should be no difference in reliability or servicing Why? - Nelly's 854 was out dragging a 996 on the motorway towards Assen last year....... Models - ???? Benefits - see above and a big plus if your bike is clean & set up how you like it Cost??? - dunno but if combined with having a service duemay slightly reduce costs overall It's fully reversible As for the other bits, Nelly can fill in the gaps |
1. Big enough that Nelly should do it, not you 2. Should be just as reliable as a 748 3. Shouldn't be any more 4. To get more grunt than a 748 without losing the 748's revvy nature 5. I think all 748's can be converted 6. More grunt, keep the revs 7. Around the 2K mark 8. Yep, it's basically just overbored barrels and 94mm pistons, but you might have to get these as exchange parts 9. A job you could do yourself? Probably, but I would go for getting Nelly to do it. I understand that it's just 916 barrels & some special pistons. |
Had my 748s done about 2 years ago. Its a wicked conversion. Sigma did the work. They did my mates 916 as well and I could keep with and most times leave his slightly on the road. So worth it if you intend to keep the bike for a long period of time. Or its set up how you like it. I have upgraded to a 996sps engine and bits at the moment but I am building the 853 into a track bike right now. Its simply too good an engine for me to let go.;) DC. |
