Post winter service / safety check ?
 

Just a bit of advice needed really. My 748 has been standing since end of October and I want to get it back on the road next weekend. It needs a bit of TLC.

I need to get it over for an MOT & full service but in the mean time just want to have a go at a few basic service issues.

I am fairly handy in the 'mechanics' role so would rather get all the stuff I am capable of doing out of the way so I'm not paying someone else to do it!

Can anyone confirm what I should be sorting first?

I was going to start with :

Tyre check / pressure check
Oil & Oil Filter change
Brake Pad check
Brake Fluid change
Spark Plug change
Check all bolts and tighten
Fuel Filter change

Any advice gratefully recieved!

Put a few drops of oil down the plug holes and turn the motor over by hand using the rear wheel and having it in gear - ensures there's some lubrication to the bores.

Clean the air filters.
Check the airbox for any crap inside it
Clean and lube the brake pad pins
Check the lights etc.
Clean & lube the chain
When you do the oil don't forget the gauze filter.
Clutch pushrod and clutch fluid.

When you fire it up don't rev it at all - let it tick over for a few minutes to ensure oil gets around the motor - especially those rockers.

With the plugs out it's dead easy.

Can anyone recommend an online supplier for the supply of fuel filter, oil filter, fluids etc. Enough for a quick basic service after the winter?

Or should I just call Ducati direct?

Just phone Nelly (Cornerspeed) or JHP...I know for certain JHP will have EVERYTHING you need and then some having had a look around their parts department storeroom during the DSC open day.

They'll have all those little odds and sods such as crush washers, new seals etc that you will also need.

Their postage costs are OK too.

Don't forget the crucial first ride after an extensive time away from riding needs to be at your pace , preferably unhurried! Save the Capirossi impressions for later in the season once you've got used to it all again.
It is amazing how quick these bikes are at the beginning of the year :o
