I have all my E-mails download to Outlook so never normally check out my mails from the ISP host...did to day and found a mail from Barclays asking me to add and confim my online banking account and password!

Looked sooooo legit...However always refused to bank online so I know that it's some swindling little monkey is out to gain a bit of dosh!:mad::mad::mad:

I just wonder how many people have been caught out by this kind of mail through their own naivety

Loads have been caught including a certain person round here whom shall remain nameless.

TBH I can't believe people would be so gullible but, they are - banks don't ask for this sort of information, never have and never will.

I know...I almost made the mistake of giving my passcode out when telephone banking and they cut me off midway so's i didn't disclose it!:)

It really is getting a BIG easy money thing this identity fraud business...
I shred everything, even before all this came to light I would snip up receipts so you couldn't recognise numbers & burn old bank statements!

It just sickens and saddens me:(

Yep. It pays to be careful and now you can get shredders so cheap there's little excuse for not doing it. One of the girls at work just had her account cleared out by someone based in London - as she's not been to the Smoke for a few years it does make you wonder. Fortunately, the Police have come to her rescue as it appears she's the victim of a large professional gang - good job too cos her bank was refusing to pay up! :o

These scams are now so much more professional than they used to be. I remember seeing e-mails that were full of spelling mistakes and the like, but they look so good now I am not surprised people get fooled. Even the web addresses on the links appear genuine.

I have just had to remind my wife as she uses online banking, paypal etc quite a lot. Not much in our bank account right now though. My wife does a good job of emptying it without the help of scammers.

Iv'e had these for nat west, barclays and alliance and liecester ! in all cases go to the real bank websites and you will find a link to report these emails just forward the email to them , i do this with all i recieve

I'm not entirely sure there's much point reporting them as the mails often come from zombie pc's and originate often in places like Russia when the authorities here can't get at them.

If you ever get an e-mail from anything money linked ... credit card, bank, pay pal etc etc

Never use the link in the e-mail to log in to the web site, good chance it may be false.

Always save the main home page in your Favorites and use this to log in.

Credit card theft is still a major issue. A work colleague had 3 cards nicked from a meeting room in a large hotel. Within 90 minutes thay had used the cards to buy / order over £4,500 of stuff .... even with chip and pin :(
