Just thought of some questions while reading this thread?

What keep the mileage, the ecu, the odometer, etc.?

So if someone swap out their ecu with 1000km on it for one that has 500km, then that will now display 500km? Or does one need to swap out ecu, odometer, and switch?

How does one know if a bike mileage is not legit when shopping for used bike?

KeefyB 10-Mar-2006 07:27

The speedo stores the mileage. Some folks have had new clocks under warranty and started back at zero miles. If you have the bikes red key you can programme the new clock to match the bike.(Dont think it can be done if already keyed to another bike.)
No red key?
You are stuffed,....that'll be new ECU.......:o:o:o

Lotta hassle to do,just to get a lower mileage used bike,....and hey,in the old days you could just pop the speedo back off and wind the counter backwards.:rolleye:

Not sure who was looking for this set up, but, he said he'd lost his red key and had problems with his clock/ecu. Therefore stuffed.

Wasn't thinking that this was a way to "clock" a bike, more of a cheap way to get around a potential £2k plus bill from Ducati for the whole set up.

Too good to be true, but if you check other items for sale it looks like a bike has been stripped for sale.hopefuuly his and not some other poor sod with an empty garage:(

good point,:flame::burn::burn:

So the red key is used for:
1) programing other black key
2) programing new speedo to match bike mileage (how do you do that or
is that a dealer magic?)
3) anything else?

Does the code on the card perform the same function as the red key?

In the old days, I can understand the speedo function, but with the new 749/999 I'm a bit at a lost. Service manual probably would have all this info but I don't have one. Hoping someone with knowledge can enlighten me.

1)Yes,the red key is for wiping and reprograming the black keys.(Your dealer has the equipment to do this.)
2)You cannot dial in some mileage on a new speedo. If a new speedo is fitted the mileage will be zero.
The code on the card is for disabling the imobiliser.Have a look in your handbook for details.
