Headset for Tom Tom GPS Nav 5 on PDA? I've just inherited a Tom Tom Navigator 5 bluetooth GPS system to run on my PDA (an O2 XDA IIi). Does anyone know if there is away of getting the spoken directions into my Arai. A compatible bluetooth headset would be best, but failing that just a good wired headset that fits nicely into a helmet? Anyone know of any? |
I bought an FM modulator off ebay that plugs into the headphone socket. You then tune a radio (a mini personal one) to the FM frequency and put some small bud type earphones on (they even fit with earplugs in). My next problem is to find an mounting point for the PDA holder on my 999. I'm running Tomtom 5 on a Jornada 928. Have already converted a socket that plugs into the optimate flylead for power. Watch this space for the mount. [Edited on 25-3-2006 by chrisw] |

Was it one like this Chris? |
Does the same job. Looks posh and expensive. This is the same as the one I got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STEREO-FM-WIRE...cm dZViewItem |
Got all the bits and here is my setup O2 XDA IIi TomTom Navigator 5 with GPS receiver Headphone socket adapter from Expansys FM Modulator from ebay FM Radio from Maplins All I need now is something to put it in - I need a clear pocket on the tank so that I can see the screen, it needs to be as small as possible and it needs to fit nicely on a 996. Anyone got any recommendations? |
That's quite a clever way round it! I've got one of those radio thingys for the iPod so I can listen to it in the car. The only problem is that it "drifts" a bit, so you sometimes have to fine-tune the radio every so often. Probably down to cheap components or the fact that it is adjustable for broadcast frequency rather than fixed. On the same subject, I've got a Treo 650 which I'm looking to put Tom Tom 5 onto, then use one of those BlueTooth GPS widgets to pickup the GPS. Anyone got any experience of this, or recommend a widget? I was looking at the cheap (sub £50) ones on ebay as there seems to be loads of them... |
I have sacked trying to mount my PDA holder on the 999 as it was too unstable. I now intend to use the map pocket on my Oxford tank bag. As there are two map pockets (one that zips off the tank bag with the mags) I can carry luggage or not. I will be able to view the screen through the clear plastic. Have a look at the DuN site for Gizmo's set up. I had a look at it at Squire's on Sunday, very neat. |
GPS - Ebay I have built 2 GPS setups for friends with components from Ebay. For the GPS receivers I have used http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Think-Technologies They are shop based, quick and have very good customer services. I have only bought wired units from them so can't comment on bluetooth. His feed back speaks volumes. |

Now that Oxford bag sounds like what I need - I like the idea of just being able to carry a clear pocket section without the tank bag. What model is it? |
