583 wiring have rewired the bike, have removed all that is not required. Now comes the good bit: with the ignition switch turned off (this is a switch not the barrel with key type) the plugs have a very faint spark, the coils are ticking, due to the sparks at the plugs. Thus draining the battery. I've been though the wiring, can't see a problem. Changed the general relay, it still does it. When the run/stop switch is at stop it stops. And the bikes running fine apart from this now. Ideas would be appriciated no matter how obvious. |
:o I know this is a stupid question - but you haven't used the indicator relay instead of the main relay have you? I stripped all the wiring out on mine and used the kill/run switch as both ignition and start switch but never experienced the symptoms that you have. |
Good shot Paul. Glyn |
no, is general relay. borrowed one from the 851 to check the 600ss one, both are ok. |
Ok, how about if you disconnect the multiplug going to the tank? Thoughts along the line of having the fuel level sender and pump wires shorting somewhere, as the fule pump is common with the cdi feeds. If not try disconnecting the feeds to the cdi units one at a time.... |
Sounds like your coils not switching fully off, they may be faulty? Check the voltage to the coil from the relay, if its still there or very low the relay isnt switching off, if theres nothing, its got to be the coils leaking. Andy |
This type of thing is almost impossible to do from a distance ... so you have to go through stuff you think you know as if you are looking at how someone else did it. Start by drawing out a wiring diagram - not from memory - by tracing the actual wires. Something is obviously not as you think it is, so you have to be your own sherlock ! Next ... why bother with the relay anyway ? you're only powering the coils. I've wired alternator to reg to 40A fuse to battery to 30A fuse to handlebar switch to ignition packs. And ... if the coils are sparking the ignition packs are being fed with a varying signal - which is possibly a rogue connection charging up a capacitor somewhere in the circuit ... so maybe you 'simply' have a poor earth connection causing a current loop you are not aware of ... or maybe you have wired the ignition packs wrongly. Thats enough thinking for now thanks :frog: |
