New oil filter keeps leaking I fitted a replacement filter at the weekend and it just keeps leaking. Firstly I did it hand tight and then I tighted it further in stages until the filter started to dent. And it still leaks. I cleaned the oil filter housing and put a smear of oil on the filter rubber. The filter did look like an cheap unbranded thing (ordered on my behalf). If I do have to take it off can I reuse the oil ? |
Not having a lot of luck at the moment mate are you, you dont need to drain the oil to take the filter off just undo the leaking filter and pop a new DUCATI filter back on and top the oil up again Stu |
dont forget to fill the filter up with fresh oil as best you can before you fit it........saves a moment of pumping fresh air around the oil galleries. |
Good idea Andy i didnt think of that |

You are not wrong there. I have no problem servicing my mountain bike, but this baby keeps given me hassle. Should I go for a genuine Ducati filter ? |
Genuine Ducati part only costs £7. Hardly worth the risk of not really.... |
Yes for sure use genuine parts like filters or very good known alternatives. This is the bit of your engine thats stops crap going round it.£40.00 + for oil and filters a fiver or so.:smug: |
My bike is a y2k 748 yet some sites list a 748 and 748BP. Will the oil filter be the same regardless ? |
