Misfires!!!!!! My 916 and another friends ST4S (996) while driving at low revs in traffic it misfires at ~ 3000 rpm. i can usually feel it in my right hand feels like the throttle grip is slipping Mine does this from time to time but mostly when temp goes at ~100 degrees C, his (only 8000km) does it almost all the time at low revs city riding. If i'm not carefull and i release the clutch faster it even stops the engine. What could be the cause of it? His bike is completely standard, went at Ducati to test it, adjusted the mixture, everything seems ok, but driving it isn't... |
Low speed misfire is usually a lean mixture, which ducatis are renowned for of course. It could also be water in the petrol, even injected engines have that problem ! Have you fitted cans and not changed the chip etc maybe ? Or fitted a free-flow air filter ? Both will make the mixture lean in all sorts of places. |
My ST2 did this constantly, i could feel it through the twistgrip. I totally cured it by balancing the throttle bodies. I should also add that a very well known dealer in the midlands had it into their workshop and didn't manage to fix it! [Edited on 21-4-2006 by rockhopper] |

Thats a good point ! One cylinder firing well near idle can cause the other to run too lean because the butterflies are as good as closed. It does usually mean that the idle mixture is lean too though. |
i had this on my 1996 916 when i dought it ,it would cough and splutter in trafic at low revs.1 set up the throttle senser, and ballanced the throttle bodies, and it cured it. |
