Not a happy bunny! Rear Sprocket I'm worried!!! I've found some torque settings for the ally cover over the rear sprocket, 5 x nuts - 7 to 8 NM. I've tightened to this but there is small movement side to side in the new sprocket. I'm also concerned this is not very tight. Is the movement ok & normal? Should I have the nuts wirelocked as I've seen on some bikes? Thanks for any advice, Dave 916BP (fitting new Renthal carrier & cogs & Tsubaki Sigma chain) |
It was like that on my old bike,I think its meant to be like that to allow for a small amount of lateral movement of the chain etc.. |
Abbott, I've just had a look at mine, and i can't find any sideways movement on the rear or the front. hope that helps?:o |
Hello mate, just had the same on mine, and found out that a Shim on the back of the sprocket was missing causing sideways movement which then started to wear the cush drive rubbers away, and i saw metal deposits on the swingarm, i also did the same and tightened up etc and still had the movement, got the shim replaced and no problems now, not good news but on the good side if thats what is wrong then the shim costs next to nothing Hope that helps Cheers Rob |
With regards to the missing shim, this seems to be a problem with mine, not saying this is the norm, all i was told was it wasnt assembled correctly this could have well be done before i got the bike, Cheers Rob |
I have the Renthal sprocket and carrier and have always had a bit of side-to-side movement. |
hmmm, thanks guys, I'll get the parts catalog out tonight and make sure the shim is in there. I'll have another strip and check parts then retorque and see what it's like. Will post what I find over the weekend. Grateful for any other comments in the meantime. Where exactly is the shim that may be missing, between which parts please??? Dave |
My 748R had quite a lot of lateral play on the rear sprocket. There was no sign of wear anywhere, the cush drive rubbers stayed well clear of the swing arm and two different dealers said there was nothing to worry about. When I eventually changed over to a Renthal carrier, the play vanished. |
