996sps How many 996sps were manufactured ? What month and year did manufacture start and finish? What is the difference between the 996, 996s and 996sps? What came as standard when purchased from the dealers new, accessories etc.? Anything to be aware of when buying second hand, what to look out for? Any questions that you suggest I ask the seller? What value or what price for a 996sps 1999 (T) 3.5k miles? Thanks ladies and gents. Richard. |
I think theres a thread on here somewhere that runs through all the specs of different year SPSs. Of the top of my head the 996 was about 112bhp and the 996SPS and 996S had 123bhp. Lots of discussion whether the 996s had Ti rods etc. General opinion seems to be the MY2000 996sps is the one to go for as it has Ohlins front and rear. Probably the sps will always be worth more than a S Do a search on here and you will find tons of info on them all. All cracking bikes, good luck! [Edited on 18-5-2006 by MARTIN H] |

The late SPS is the one to go for 2000+ - this is the one that had Ohlins front and rear. I reckon the '99 one you're looking at would have Showa forks. Worth waiting for a later one if you can - much more desirable. as for number sold - not sure - but these were not a limited edition run. Tim |

And here. Worth a search through the archives as there is more info and argument about these than you can shake a stick at. http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm...7873#pid161856 |

Even at that mileage I would be asking the seller if the cams and rockers have been checked for wear. The SPS seems to be particularly bad in that respect |
97-99 sps with showa as it is a true classic with same power as later ones - later sps is R wannabe IMHO |

As they brought the ohlin fork version out 3 months after i bought mine, for the same price, i was not impressed. i would have been quite happy being a wannabe :D :D |
