Smilies.....not lost !
 

Smilies, like on the 'old' XMB message board are mini-code type objects that the system recognises, there does not seem to be a pop-up window as of old but if you look in the FAQ option and type 'smilies' a list will appear of the keyboard shortcuts to use.

Also, from the User Settings / Edit Options panel, when replying, if you select a more advanced interface - WYSIWYG for example, the smilies are more visible.
