The Rain masters (to the ring) Well i think it's time to say a few words and a big thankyou to all who came out on the trip to the Nurburgring. Thursday night. I met up with a few boys at clackets lane services, and we headed off to Dover at a real sensible pace down the M20,LOL. A fantastic evening in the local pub and a nice meal at the chinese. Friday Morning. we awake to a foggy, wet, and misty day and head off down to the ferry at 7am to meet up with the rest, hand shakes all round and we board the boat. 2hrs later we depart into France and the most awfull monsoon that I have ever seen, the rain was bouncing off the road the sky was grey and black and the wind was gusting a mere force 7! I load the gear into mav's support vessel,(at least i knew their kit would be dry by the time we get to the Hotel in Germany) anyways, we head off for the first leg, "I have to be honest here before we go any further" I have driven and ridden in some shite weather on many ocassions But what these boys endured in the next six hours,I have to take my hat off to them.(Most people would have throwed the towel in) anyway,as the (Lead) car, I set a pace that i thought would be ok and we carved our way through crosswinds and spray that was that dence i had to keep my indicators on so as the boys could see me when overtaking lorries. First fuel stop at 96 miles and we are on schedual (No Mean task) by now the boys were soaked and were wringing glove's out but all still buzzing and the weather was not dampening spirits one bit. after a short coffee break, we head off on the motorway and the rain seemed to ease slightly, we were about 30miles from fuel stop 2 when someone removed the plug from a million litre bath and droped it on us, at that point I made the "saftey" call and fetched the boys in to a service area, where we stoped and sampled the nicest pom frits ever (chips). I got my head in gear and had a word with Ross braun,as I need to change our stratergie as we had made the impromptu early stop and we were now out of sink and way behind. After we left the services, I snook in some better pace where I could, but was ever mind full of the standing water, and so we carved our way across germany to the hotel. I have to say at this point, I have done this journey over the years many many times, and I have never ever seen rain like it and certainly never seen it rain so hard for so long,ie all the way there! So Give yourselves a "BIG" pat on the back. you are now truly "THE RAIN Masters" ................Mav |
Gloves nearly dried out, no not the ones that fell between the headstock during my one handed stunt :-))....................Getting a jetski for the next one ;-) |
MAV - there's another thread developing under webby's post of this morning, but again a very big thank you for an astonishingly good 4 days, and for giving life to my bike after yet another drowning on the way home....and just to think that I was contemplating pulling out due to the certainty that it would be raining all the way to Germany... Richard. |
