749 battery woes

Battery is 18 months old, and although it holds a charge it isn’t delivering the amps to start the bike, its been tested and the verdict is it’s knackered.
Now am I unlucky, is this normal, or have I knackered it by overcharging it while on trackdays with the headlight fuse pulled?
I tried to keep an eye on the battery voltage, but to be honest its not really where I want my eye to be while on the track.

Its normal I'm afraid. The gel batteries fitted to modern Ducati's just dont seem to last very long at all.I guess thats what they call progress!

With lead acid batteries the manufacturer can engineer a limited life into it. I would think that they can do the same with gel batteries some how.

My battery is 2 years old and I was informed during it's service the battery is leaking and needs replacing.

Oh well, will just keep going with the optimate then.
Cheers for the replies, seems I'm vindicated

Many (including mine) 749 / 999 batteries seem to go down within the first 2 years ... Ducati will replace it under the 2 year warranty.

Wonder if mine's gone.
The optimate says it's ok, it appears to charge (14.1v whilst running) but after a 12 mile ride the other day didn't have enough in it to start, even the lo bat came up.

Just seen this on ebay

Which is the better/correct battery? one has BS at the end whilst the other has B4?

Cheers

I'm still on my original 2 year old 749S battery. It's always been on an optimate, which may have helped it?
