998s track bike build - no ignition?

i thought every thing waswired correctly but now im not so sure.

wired with top 2 on white block connector that originaly went to inition switch now through on off switch.
turn on -pump primes ok oil light on in rev counter and temp guage flicks to life, but no nuteral light or power to the solenoid?

bridge solenoid and engine turns with no spark.

all the block connectors are connected to coils ing pick up etc
what should i try next?

i was really hoping to hear her run today, B*GGER

I would have to check but I think the side stand switch provides a earth to the starter relay so if that isn't shorted out you get nothing when hitting the start button, if you have a sidestand bypass harness this uses the Neutral switch earth to ground the start soinoid to allow starting with the side stand down,This Earth is fed to the 5.9m ECU And from there to the start solinoid

your a star Kev, you know when you read something and the penny drops, i recon your probably right, il have to try and find where it plugs on the loom and see what i can sort out.

thanks millions

well i found the connector what i reckon goes to the side stand switch, (its the only spare one in any case)
i dont have a side stand switch to plug in so i tried to bridge the terminals, however still no change.

no ignition curcuit/ no power to solenoid or netural light??

looks like its going to be off to the dealer on trailer as i cant come up with any better ideas

I take it you do have a full 998 Harness, the front bit you were after a short while ago is for the 998 and not from a non testastretta model, if its one of the others like a later 996 then the wiring is wrong and your bike will not run without some mods and you will also be without a neutral light isf its not connected to later model clock harness

Bungi 04-Jun-2006 21:07

Hmmmmm

once again your probably right,

im not sure exactly re the origin of the harness, was the correct no of pins and wasnt aware there were loads of differant ones .

do you have any idea what i need to do re mods to the harness that i now have??

skidlids 04-Jun-2006 23:10

Got it written down somewhere, the 998 front harness uses the larger multi-pin connector with the same number of pins of that of later 748/996s, the main difference is it is slightly longer than any front harness fitted to a 748/916/996 which you notice if you have the wrong one and try to route it as a standard setup. I rememer I posted the info a short while back when Lily was having problems

Hope this works

With Neutral light some are designed to work with the two wire Neutral switch and others with the one wire neutral wire switch

sounds like madness

mine is the 19 pin type connector, i have (for sure) the right main harness, and was missing the front part, phoned ducati ashford (not sure if they have a clue) was told there were 2 harnesses available ( i took this to mean a 22 pin type and a 19 pin type) any how i sourced a 19 pin one, whch fiited nicely!! together with my main harness, so iguess the conector size is the same.

the only other front harness i have is a 22 pin one which came off the 748r engine etc that i removed from the bike and thats way differant, with relays on it and all sorts.

how many types of front harness are there?? with 19 pins?? i guess i cant understand how if your saying the 19 pin ones with a larger connector will plug on to my main harness?!?!

so you may well be right and its the wrong one, just seems bazar that it hass all the correct block connectors, for example the starter / kill switchs are all the same so how can if i have the correct main harness(which i do =) it be wired differantly at the plug on the switch( i assume its not then0 so must be they are wired through differant pin points at the multi pin fiting??

so is it possible to just kinda pull them out and change them over, amtbe using your multi pin diagram.

i see youve listed pins as A - V but where do these locate in terms of position, are these colours what id expect to see on the main harness? or front harness?

should they be the same colours at each position on both harnesses?

hope this all makes sense?!!
