Sky boxes ... (noises in the night)

... should all be made from solid state memory!

The hard drive in mine is SOOOOOO loud in my dark flat at 1:30am ... but then I guess all the noises are amplified and take on new characters when you can't get to sleep.

I had a vision of my sky box, with it's evil red powered off button, ticking away writing to the hard drive in the middle of the night but lowering the volume of the disk writes ... until I'm almost asleep ... then turning the volume up again!

Rupert Murdoch is reprogramming all of us in our sleep ...

And not a single reply ... you rude lot!

:)

Do boilers wash themselves? Mine sounds like it's been on a freakin industrial rinse cycle!

If it's getting noisy then it could be on its way out. Get a larger capacity replacement - bit more than a standard PC one because its got funny connections but not outrageous. Alternatively, upgrade to a HD box

As for your boiler, I know you're from down under but surely even you don't need the heat on at this time of year?

You sure you didnt have a dodgy plumber, sounds like he sold you a washing machine and bolted that to the wall instead :D

My Sky boxes are a silent as mice. Never hear a dickie-bird out of them. Two animal references in one paragraph - quality.

Perhaps it needs replacing or someone is trying to hack it down the phone line?!

Turn it off at night if it is noisy and save the planet and fluffy animals!

I have researched this one:
the hard drives which have proved to be successful in the sky+boxes are Maxtor 40/80 and 120 gig, they must be 7200 speed as the sky box needs to recognise the drive within about 8 seconds, if the disc is slow at spinning up then the sky box will reject it.
It needs to be IDE and will fit straight into your old box, it takes about 1 minute to replace and the box will format the drive itself when you do a restart.
any more info PM me.
