REv Counter - Will this fit a 916 ? Thought they were all the same on 748,916,996,998 but the seller stipulates: Quote:

Should work on any model with the 1.6m ecu, such as all 748s, 916BP, 916 Senna etc. We have had problems trying to get a Ducati Performance race rev counter off a 748RS (1.6M ECU) to work on a 996SPS (P8 ECU), so we put it down to the differing ECUs. The Revcounter on my 996BP (1.6M ECU) pulses a lot and makes me suspect it is off of a 916SP or SPS (P8 ECUs). But only suspicions haven't done any proper testing to draw definite conclusions |

Is that the case then, different tachometers for different models such as sps and bipostas? Might be why my tacho has stopped working since I grafted the SPS lump and loom into it. It all rides and runs fine but as yet, I have been unable to sort it. All electrics work bar the tacho!!?? Thought it may be the P8 ECU playing up but figured that if the bike was running ok then the P8 must be working as well? DC. |
There are 2 types of tacho (on the road bikes) and they don't work if swapped over. So if you have a 1.6m you cant fit an SP/SPS tacho and vise vera. |

I had a similar situation on race car tachos. For some tachos the output signal is too big, and it causes the tacho to pulse. The cure was to put a resistor in series with the tacho signal feed, and hey presto all was well. I seem to remember using a 1k resistor, but it can do no harm to experiment. if the tacho still pulses, try a higher resistance, if it stops reaading at all try a lower one! Unfortunately for Desmobob I suspect there is no easy cure if the signal is too low, and the tacho is not reading at all - unless you are up for building a small signal amplifier! |

Anyone know a method of measuring the pulse from the 916 ECU? Or another means of finding out which type of pulse I have? Unless it's broken if I can find out what feed is firing from the ECU I can determine if a swap is possible. I assume the voltage will remain the same, so a meter is of no use. Anyone got a portable oscilloscope handy? :) |
