Your Recommendations Please - Trip to East Anglia

I have a week off between jobs so have decided to potter off on my bike to a part of England I've never been to before - East Anglia. I would like to explore the coast as well as inland.

It's not a small place so I want to make sure I see the best of it. As DSC members are a most discerning bunch I thought I would ask those 'in the know' for any recommendations for places to visit, B&B's to stay at, pubs to relax at, places to eat, etc.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Try Adleburgh near ipswich.
Beautiful seaside town without the chavs, very much like La Rochelle in France and houses Englands best fish & chip shop!

Went there for the 1st time on the weekend, beautiful!

Start out from Greater London around the Loughton/Chigwell end then try Chipping Ongar, Fyfield, Leeden Roding, Great Dunmow, Thaxted, Saffron Walden for a run along some very nice B roads. You can turn east towards Ipswich and follow the coast round. There's some nice places to stop at like Aldeburgh and Southwold, Norwich isn't bad for a city and the North Norfolk coast is nice, places like Blakeney, Wells-next-the-sea...there's always Hunstanton for a bike stop.

I'm not really local though so the Essex, Suffolk and Narfukkers'll be along in a minute with some better ideas I'm sure

Some nice roads there Jools, only damper I can think of is the Holiday traffic can be a pain along the coast road from Cromer to Hunstanton as we found out last year on the Norfolk raid. The B1054 out of Safron Walden across to Haverhill then on the A143 ( Good biking road ) all the way to Beccles that another nice Suffolk town on the river Waveney. 4D

My home stomping ground - plenty of lovely back roads to enjoy, just keep away from the A12 and A47.

Cromer has some olde worlde charm, Happisburgh (pronounced Hayz-boro) has an excellent chippy, Great Yarmouth is the golden 1/4 mile, Lowestoft (my home town) a dump, Southwold another lovely town (Adnams ales!) and Maldon great down the park and along the prom.

Enjoy!

Fantastic guys - thanks for the recommendations. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss an opportunity, be it a road to ride or a place to kip or somewhere to eat. Cheers for that.

I love planning a road trip.

As far as great places to go almost everywhere between Cromer and Hunstanton along the coast road, except Cromer & Hunstanton, IMO.

Fish & Chips at Wells Next The Sea and if you want to have fun go get a line and some bacon/pork and go crabbing off the harbours wall.

Norwich is a nice city but the surrounding countryside is nicer, try and watch the A47 bit of an accident blackspot.

Take the A149 from the Barton Mills roundabout (on the A11) all the way up to Cromer, via Swaffham. Then double back to Fakenham and follow the signs for Hunstanton. Park up right on the beach front, grab a 99, and take in the view. Doesn't get any better...
